Discover Sutherland - Your Local Guide
  Scenic Sutherland

The county of Sutherland is a landscape of contrasts.

To the east, in the area bordering the North Sea, there are lush, fertile agricultural lands and long sandy beaches. Inland, there are mountains and moorlands where you will also find numerous lochs and rivers, while the landscape to the north and west is rugged and majestic.

Sutherland also has the most north-westerly point on the British mainland - Cape Wrath in the far north of the County.

You may be surprised to learn that despite its northerly location, the climate in Sutherland is relatively dry - it receives less rainfall than many other parts of the British Isles - and it is mild too, thanks to the warming influence of the Atlantic gulf stream.
